James Henry: media darling; Learning at 98

Too Old To Learn? NEVER!

James Henry: media darling featured in People, on CNN - The Westerly Sun: Metertest: MYSTIC — James Arruda Henry’s rapid rise from humble lobster-boat captain to literary star has been tiring, said his granddaughter Marlisa McL…

If this 98 year old lobster fisherman can learn to read and write in his 90's in order to publish his life story... well think of the opportunities we all have to embrace new learning. I'm a spring chicken next to James Henry!

I've learned more in the last 5 years as a storyteller than I have in my whole life! I've embraced the web technology and although I don't ( and who does?) know it all, I am confortable in what I know and willing to share. Really I just want to share my excitement in learning. I have a Web Presence Seminar in Albany, NY March 16 sign up at www.lanes.org for the pre-conference seminar. I needed the Web Presence so everyone in the storytelling world and beyond could get to know who I am and where I'm going with my dream career.

I've learned so many stories and am always on the lookout for more. I have taught myself to play harmonica, and am working on a couple other instruments and improving my voice for singing. I'm learning , learning makes me feel young and vibrantly alive. James Henry, Bravo for making me pause to think about it, you are my new hero!

How To Skype

How to use Skype for live image conversation, meetings and  how to workshops. You could be practicing a story with a friend far away! This video is great but it starts a little to far in the experience for a very new user. First be sure your computer has a built in web cam or purchase one that can be plugged into you computer. Once the computer is ready with a camera you are much closer to being live online. From a search engine page such as Google type in Skype. You will be given a site you can download Skype from and add it to your desktop. Just follow those step by step instructions.

Here is a you-tube instructional to take you from there to talking with a friend.

Come back tomorrow for part 2 Skype

Why Will Facebook Timeline Help You

Tick Tick Tick, yes the clock is ticking  to  Feb. 10 when everyone will be changed over to  Facebook's new Timeline style page.

I can hear the cries of NOOOOO! already.

Wait, just stop a minute, is it really that hard to figure out a new way of doing things?

Was it hard to change from standard to automatic in cars?

Will the change leave you feeling totally exposed and unprepared, or free to explore and  gain new confidence?

You do have the option of deleting anything yo don't want shown. You can adjust your privacy settings so only selected friends see certain things. Remember your boss, or the college you applied to may be looking at your page. What will they see? Who do you want them to get to know?

Take the time right now and delete the unwanted and prepare for the Facebook that reads like a Sunday paper full of color photos and video and  all the things and people you"like".

Just like a birthday a gift coming to you on Feb. 10th. Be excited because it is shiny, new and exciting. All your friends will be there and you will find something in it you will be surprised to see - you  are the star! Just take a bit of time - you know you were going to sign on for hours anyway, now click your way around the new template. There is a lot there to love!

Make a page you love and you are proud to have the world see. Our social community that brings us together is just a few clicks away. Your new page will help you get back in touch, remember those not with you, support causes, and follow what's new in your world.

The new Facebook will keep what is important to you close to the top of your page. The funny video that cheers you up on the worst day will be right there. The family pictures, well you can now watch the kids grow right before your eyes! You will have better contact with your friends and a more information at our fingertips. I know you are going to love it, like a brand new toy.
