Students Caught Eating Curriculum

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math curriculum must be delicious,
students at my workshops thought so!

The workshop and demonstration S.T.E.A.M. Ice Cream  is rocking the schools with excitement and creating buzz at expos and fair type outings.  S.T.E.A.M. Ice Cream uses alternative energy to make 5 gallons of delicious ice cream. Students don't think twice about the math and science because the workshop naturally engages their imagination and willingness to experiment and improvise.

The art of storytelling releases the student inquisitive nature through stories of inventors and innovators, many of whom were very young when they began their work. With these stories shared we get the group consensus that it is cool to invent and  there are no wrong answers when brainstorming. Students inhibitions about sharing off beat thoughts diminish as they work in a atmosphere of acceptance. The goal of producing 5 gallons of ice cream is a worthy reward too!

With the stories and math done the brainstorming comes in. How can we use what we have to power the ice cream maker. Bike power or solar power, are available, wind and water are coming in 2013, and a novel way invented by one of the workshop students!  We may even get kid power harnessed!!
A recycled bike make a great power unit even a cow can run!

The S.T.E.A.M. Ice Cream  Workshop can be a 3 hour workshop, a 2 hour workshop, it can be done with large groups that rotate through stations and  it is a great 45 demonstration with tasting after a batch is made!

When we do shorter workshops we send the math and science worksheets along in advance and have some things as follow up. Students see the process of making the ice cream using alternative energy and hear the storytelling/literacy component. I always include info on open space, farm to school, farmland preservation and buy local to the conversation during my visits.

At a fair, expo, event, corporate visit or museum S.T.E.A.M. Ice Cream can be an ongoing demo  with  ice cream being sampled.

If you are looking for the newest way to engage students or the public at an event S.T.E.A.M. Ice Cream is sure to please a crowd!

How To Skype

How to use Skype for live image conversation, meetings and  how to workshops. You could be practicing a story with a friend far away! This video is great but it starts a little to far in the experience for a very new user. First be sure your computer has a built in web cam or purchase one that can be plugged into you computer. Once the computer is ready with a camera you are much closer to being live online. From a search engine page such as Google type in Skype. You will be given a site you can download Skype from and add it to your desktop. Just follow those step by step instructions.

Here is a you-tube instructional to take you from there to talking with a friend.

Come back tomorrow for part 2 Skype

Why Will Facebook Timeline Help You

Tick Tick Tick, yes the clock is ticking  to  Feb. 10 when everyone will be changed over to  Facebook's new Timeline style page.

I can hear the cries of NOOOOO! already.

Wait, just stop a minute, is it really that hard to figure out a new way of doing things?

Was it hard to change from standard to automatic in cars?

Will the change leave you feeling totally exposed and unprepared, or free to explore and  gain new confidence?

You do have the option of deleting anything yo don't want shown. You can adjust your privacy settings so only selected friends see certain things. Remember your boss, or the college you applied to may be looking at your page. What will they see? Who do you want them to get to know?

Take the time right now and delete the unwanted and prepare for the Facebook that reads like a Sunday paper full of color photos and video and  all the things and people you"like".

Just like a birthday a gift coming to you on Feb. 10th. Be excited because it is shiny, new and exciting. All your friends will be there and you will find something in it you will be surprised to see - you  are the star! Just take a bit of time - you know you were going to sign on for hours anyway, now click your way around the new template. There is a lot there to love!

Make a page you love and you are proud to have the world see. Our social community that brings us together is just a few clicks away. Your new page will help you get back in touch, remember those not with you, support causes, and follow what's new in your world.

The new Facebook will keep what is important to you close to the top of your page. The funny video that cheers you up on the worst day will be right there. The family pictures, well you can now watch the kids grow right before your eyes! You will have better contact with your friends and a more information at our fingertips. I know you are going to love it, like a brand new toy.

My Web Presence is Dead

And Other Fear Factors

This is your chance to  get over those technology fears and begin to build web presence for marketing through my workshop. Announcing the  4 hour in-depth version to be given in March.

It is being offered to anyone, as a pre-conference  at Sharing the Fire the Northeast Storytelling Conference sponsored by Lanes www.lanes.org  March 16 from 1-5 p.m.  in Albany, New York. All the details are on the Lanes website.

This is not just for storytellers, this will help anyone wanting a better grasp of the major platforms of the web. Artists, small business owners, agriculture business, Non Profits, social groups and more can benefit!  Everyone is welcome at Sharing the Fire!

Can you send an email? Do you have a lap top  that can come to the workshop with you? We will begin your campaign to  build a web presence from the ground up.

I promise to tell the story of how my web presence REALLY  was dead!
I will share  how I fixed it, what's next, and how you can work to fix yours.

Don't think you are going to sit there tied to your lap top for 4 hours...NO WAY!  This workshop will be fun and full of action.

This is what was said about the 90 minute version given at the 2011 CT.Storytelling Festival:

"This workshop validated what I was doing right, how to improve on what I was
doing, and how I could increase my presence even more. The hand out sheets
will not be used for scrap but uploaded into my resources page of my
computer. I have attended networking workshops in the past, but this one
spoke in a language I could understand and gave me time to ask questions. My
only drawback it could have been longer..and the facilitator set time limits
on the responses from the audience. I would highly recommend this workshop
to be extended for next year and if necessary, I would pay an additional
cost to attend. It is what we need as Artist to get through the tech mire
of the computer world."

Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti

"Carolyn took us through the basic steps but gave us so much more in the process. She seemed to know what our fears and our questions were and answered them before we could even ask. She gave clear and insightful information and encouragement to try new things and why it is important to do so."
Chris Rothe

Hear is the magic wand granting their wish for a longer workshop....  4 hours of dedicated time!

Did you want to learn more about Facebook and your business, how about twitter, what's that all about?

I tube, do you-tube?  Making you-tube bring  people to your website. Blog anyone? How about a simple effective website, you can do that too!

I know, I know...you are really busy and there is a lot to learn. We will take it one step at a time, get you started on some fun projects and focus on what you want most out of this.

This Grandma, farm wife, storyteller wants to help you get  over your fears and get in gear!
If I can do it - so can YOU!
